Bandits fall 2-1 to the Crusaders on home ice

Brooks, AB (November 23, 2024) – The Brooks Bandits winning streak is snapped at eight games following their first home loss of the season, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Sherwood Park Crusaders on Saturday night at the Centennial Regional Arena.

In the first period there was no scoring, both teams struggled to get quality chances as the Crusaders had the edge on shots leading 9-5 after the period.

In the second period, the Bandits couldn’t find a way to beat Crusaders goaltender James Venne. Near the end of the period, Sherwood Park forward Kale Dach was able to slide a puck under goaltender Johnny Hicks off the rush to make it 1-0 Crusaders.

In the third period, the Crusaders were able to double up their lead with a wraparound goal by defenceman Tait Ross, who scored his 2nd goal of the season. With less than three minutes left, Bandits forward Nathan Free picked up the pass from Nick Peluso on the left wing who drove in the left side wing and fired the wrist shot past goaltender Venne to cut the deficit in half. Free extended his point streak to eight consecutive games.

The Bandits were unable to complete the comeback, falling 2-1, with their record now at 18-2 on the season. The next Bandits game is the Annual Teddy Bear Toss game on Friday, November 29th as they take on the Surrey Eagles at 7:00 pm.
