Brooks, AB (November 16, 2024) – The Brooks Bandits win streak is at seven games following a 5-2 win over the Cranbrook Bucks on Saturday at the Centennial Regional Arena.
Goaltender Johnny Hicks stayed undefeated this season with 17 saves to increase his record to 14-0 and the Bandits improved to 17-1 on the season, and 9-0 at home.
In the first period, the Bandits controlled the pace of play as they came out flying out of the gate. The shots were 12-4 in the period as both teams could not find a way to score as Bucks starter Miles Roberts stood tall in the Bucks net.
In the 2nd period, the Bandits were able to find a way through as defenceman Ethan Beyer opened the scoring only 28 seconds into the period with a power play goal on a give-and-go pass from forward Parker Lalonde. Just under eight minutes later, Lalonde got hooked on the breakaway and was awarded a penalty shot, as he made no mistake and ripped the wrist shot past the glove side of Roberts to double the Bandits lead to 2-0. Only one minute later, forward Davide Patella buried his fifth goal of the year and extended the Bandits lead to 3-0 after one-timing a Josh Wiebe pass from the corner. Just halfway through the period, Hicks made a fantastic cross ice pad save to keep the Bucks off the board. Just after the seven minute mark, Wiebe scored his second goal of the year, tapping in a Matej Teply pass. Just moments later, Lalonde scored his 2nd goal of the game and 16th goal of the season.
In the third period of play, later on in the period, the Bucks were able to find the back of the net twice as they scored three minutes apart to bring the score to 5-2.
The Bandits won this game by a score of 5-2 as they defeated the Cranbrook Bucks in the first of six meetings this year. The Bandits head down to Blackfalds next Friday, November 22nd to take on the Bulldogs at 7 PM.
