Oct 16, 2024 – The Brooks Bandits remain undefeated on the season following a 1-0 shutout win over the West Kelowna Warriors at the BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack, BC.
Goaltender Johnny Hicks made 22 saves for his second shutout of the season, while forward Parker Lalonde scored his BCHL-leading 10th goal of the season for the game’s only goal.
In the first period both teams were not very disciplined as the Warriors racked up 14 minutes of penalties and the Bandits had four minutes. The Bandits did get the first bounce as Lalonde tipped home his 10th goal of the year on the power play after receiving a pass between the circles by Nathan Free. Hicks stopped a Warriors shorthanded breakaway attempt.
The second period had no scoring with the Bandits putting up 10 shots and the Warriors seven. Each team tallied another six penalty minutes.
The third remained a goalie battle as both teams couldn’t find a way to score another goal. The Bandits had a successful coaches challenge that led to a four-minute double minor penalty for high sticking to the Warriors but the Bandits couldn’t double their lead. After a final push in the last couple minutes of play with the goaltender pulled, the Bandits held on to the 1-0 lead to win this game.
Hicks was named player of the game for the Bandits.
The Bandits wrap up their BCHL Showcase on Thursday, October 17th, when they face the Coquitlam Express at 1:00 pm (Pacific). Listen on New Country 105.7 FM.
