The Bandits entered an overtime frame for the third time this season, and for the third time they failed to secure the extra point losing 4-3 to the Sherwood Park Crusaders on Saturday night.
An early first period 2-0 lead was built with goals from Makaio Van Tassel (11) and Jeremy Leroux (9), a lead which the Bandits seemingly sat back on as the Crusaders grew stronger over time. A stretch of penalty calls failed to help the Bandits’ cause, with the Crusaders awarded six straight powerplays. All of those were killed, albeit the last one. Ben Davis picked up his third goal of the season in the first period before Finn Kallay’s powerplay marker tied the game as the lone goal in the second frame.
The third period featured the Bandits regaining their lead with another powerplay goal from Zachary Deleau (5) but four minutes later, Dylan Rousselle scored to force a 3-3- tie that lasted until overtime.
The Bandits powerplay finished 2/3, while their penalty kill stopped 5/6.
In overtime, miscues and a final giveaway led to a 2-on-1 rush where Kallay beat Emile Beaunoyer for his second goal of the game, sealing the 4-3 victory.
The Bandits have a short turnaround and will need a short memory when they welcome the Blackfalds Bulldogs to the CRA, wrapping up three straight home games, on Sunday at 4:00pm.
