October 27, 2024 – Matej Teply broke a 3-3 tie late in the 3rd period as the Brooks Bandits bounced back by defeating the Sherwood Park Crusaders 4-3 and getting back in the win column on Sunday afternoon at the Centennial Regional Arena.
Goaltender Johnny Hicks made 24 saves for his ninth win of the season as the Bandits improved to 11-1 on the season and 7-0 at home.
The Bandits got off to a good start after forward Nick Peluso fired home his eighth goal of the season just 4:37 into the period with a backhander to put the Bandits up 1-0. Just two minutes later, forward Jack Rosensteel got his 2nd goal of the year to double up the Bandits lead off rebound from a Mathis Dufour shot from the wall. Hicks made a clutch pad save on Crusaders forward Kale Dach’s breakaway chance to preserve the lead.
In the second period, Jude Bray from the Crusaders hooked Brock Souch on a breakaway which led Souch to score his first goal of the season against his former team on a penalty shot, making it 3-0 Bandits. Close to the end of the frame, Sherwood Park forward Poul Andersen scored his eighth goal of the year to put the Crusaders on the board.
Sherwood Park would create some momentum fin the third period shortly after a Brock Souch and Brec Christenson fight, scoring two goals in 18 seconds. The first came from forward Jeremy Loranger and the other by Kale Dach to now even the game 3-3. With regulation time winding down, defenceman Matej Teply drove the net and roofed the go-ahead 4-3 goal with only 44 seconds remaining in the game. Sherwood Park pulled goalie James Venne for the extra attacked, but didn’t equalize to give the Bandits the win.
