Paronuzzi scores twice as Bandits beat Smoke Eaters 6-2 in Preseason Debut

Brooks, AB – Connor Paronuzzi had two goals, while Zach Zahara made 20 saves as the Brooks Bandits won their Preseason debut 6-2 over the Trail Smoke Eaters on Saturday at the Centennial Regional Arena.

Francois Devilliers, Dante Siciliano, Dmitrijs Dilevka and Michael Kucherwy scored the other Bandits goals, Andreas Mikrogiannakis had three assists, while the penalty kill went 3/3.

Devilliers opened the scoring at 4:34 of the 1st period, tapping in a rebound to make it 1-0 Bandits. However, the Smoke Eaters tied the game at 7:47 as Maddox Gandha scored on his own rebound. Brooks retook the lead at 17:20, as Paronuzzi tapped in a Andreas Mikrogiannakis pass off the rush to make it 2-1.

Paronuzzi made it 3-1 at 6:46, sliding a puck five-hole. With just four seconds left in the 2nd period, Siciliano scored on a long-range wrist shot off an offensive zone faceoff win to make it 4-1.

The Bandits added two more goals in the 3rd period, as Dilevka scored off the rush, finishing off an Alexi Zhukov pass just two minutes into the 3rd to make it 5-1. Kucherwy scored with a forehand shot at 11:32 to make it 6-2. Final shots were 25-22.

Attendance was 986.

The Bandits next game is Sunday, September 7th when they visit the Okotoks Oilers. Game time is 5:35 pm, and will be broadcast live on New Country 105.7 FM.
