September 20, 2024- The Brooks Bandits kicked off their 25th regular season with a 5-0 shut-out win over the Oilers thanks to a 22-save performance from goaltender Johnny Hicks on Friday in Okotoks.
Forward Isaac Johnson led the Bandits with a four point night, while linemate Nick Peluso chipped in two goals and an assist.
The Bandits kicked off the action with an early powerplay goal scored by Nick Peluso only six minutes into the game on a rebound. The team would keep the pressure rolling as Isaac Johnson drives through the neutral zone, and completed a wrap-around goal to make it a 2-0 lead for the Bandits. Forward Josh Wiebe found the back of the net after Johnson forced a turnover with just under two minutes to go in the period to extend the lead to 3-0 ahead of the intermission.
In the second period, the game stayed even until the Bandits found themselves back on the powerplay and Nick Peluso scored his 2nd of the game on a rebound from a Nathan Free shot. Johnny Hicks made a big stop as the penalty ran out for Okotoks on a lead breakaway prior to the goal.
Forward Nathan Brown scored his first BCHL goal of his career with just over five minutes remaining in the final period of play.
The Bandits are back at home tomorrow night when the Oilers make their way to Brooks in the 2nd of the home and home. Game time is 7 PM. Reminder to all fans there will be a tailgate party before the game, player introductions and a banner raising ceremony.
