Brooks, Alberta – The Brooks Bandits defeated the Cranbrook Bucks 5-1 to take a 2-0 series lead Saturday night at the Centennial Regional Arena.
Tanner Winegard opened scoring for the Bandits at 10:02 with a wrist shot from the point, before Alexei Zhukov followed with a goal in the low slot at 16:31, assisted by Jack Good. Good had two assists on the night.
Winegard connected again at 7:46 of the second period with a perfectly placed one-timer from the left circle on the power play. The Bandits took a 3-0 lead into the second intermission.
Shane Tronoski showed some life for the Bucks with a goal at 6:21, but that hope was short lived as Zachary Deleau connected on a point shot at 16:28 to seal the deal. Harijs Cjunskis scored a full rink empty net goal at 18:04 to put the cherry on top of a 5-1 win.
The Bandits now head to Cranbrook to take on the Bucks on Tuesday, Wednesday, and if necessary, Friday. All games are at 7:00 MT and broadcast on FloHockey and New Country 105.7.
