Bandits Prevail in Overtime Over Crusaders 4-3

Sherwood Park, Alberta — The Brooks Bandits defeated the Sherwood Park Crusaders 4–3 in overtime Wednesday night at Sherwood Park Arena. Harry Ahlberg scored the opening and game-winning goals for Brooks, while Leon Bussmann and Jack Rosensteel also found the back of the net.

Joseph Sinclair opened the scoring for the Crusaders at 2:03 of the second period. Just over a minute later, Bode Sampair doubled the lead at 3:04. Braeden O’Keefe added another at 6:56, giving Sherwood Park a 3-0 advantage, its largest lead of the night. Ahlberg responded later in the frame, scoring from the right circle to cut the deficit to 3-1 heading into the third.

Bussmann drew a penalty on a breakaway but powered through to score and make it 3-2. Rosensteel tied the game at 12:25 of the third period, finishing from the top of the crease to force overtime.

In the extra frame, Ahlberg capitalized on his own rebound and buried a backhand to hand the Crusaders their fourth straight loss and move the Bandits within one point of the Bulldogs for the Interior East Division lead.

The Bandits return home for a busy weekend, hosting the Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. MT and the Okotoks Oilers on Monday at 4:00 p.m. MT. Both games will be broadcast on FloHockey and New Country 105.7.
