Bandits Go Undefeated on Opening Weekend Beating the Oilers 4-2

The Brooks Bandits defeated the Okotoks Oilers 4-2 in their home opener despite the Oilers taking the lead in the first period, then again in the second period. The Oilers have not beaten the the Bandits in the regular season since January of 2022.

Michael Mikan struck first for the Oilers at the 8:53 mark of the first period with a tap-in goal on a two on one opportunity. The Bandits did not take long to respond and Connor Paronuzzi (Emeryville, Ontario) buried his own rebound to score his first goal in the BCHL after winning MVP of the MJHL just last season.

It was a relatively quiet second period until the last five minutes. Lightning struck twice for the Oilers as Michael Mikan scored his second of the game ripping a puck in the slot off the post and in on Zach Zahara.

Dante Sicilliano (Whitby, Ontario) fired right back as his point shot bounced off a defender and went low glove on Ben Vatis. Going into the final frame, it was 2-2.

Jack Good (Pickering, Ontario) struck first for the Bandits in the third and albeit a challenge from the Oilers on a high stick, it counted for Good’s first goal of the season. Kamyl Chemrouk popped the bottle on a 2 on 1 and posted his first goal of the season, but also his third point in two regular season games as a Bandit.

Jack Good not only scored his first goal of the season, but also was named the first star of the night.

“It was great to be back [at the CRA],” said Good. “We have a great group of guys.”

The Brooks Bandits are now 2-0 and sit atop the standings of the BCHL. They are back in action next Friday, September 26th against the Blackfalds Bulldogs. Tickets are on sale at brooksbandits.net.
