Brooks, Alberta – The Brooks Bandits fell to the Okotoks Oilers 5-4 in Overtime Sunday night at the Centennial Regional Arena. Luke Melnik registered three points in the loss.
Jack Rosensteel got things started for the Bandits with a power play goal at 4:28 that deflected off of an unsuspecting Oiler. Jack Good followed up with his own goal when he buried one on the doorstep at 11:07 to make it 2-0. Holden Pajor drew the Oilers to within one at 14:08 to send them to the break down 2-1.
Marko Lisica tied the game up for the Oilers at 2:07 and Jamie Hikida followed up just over five minutes later to get Okotoks their first lead of the game. Former Bandits Josh Wiebe scored right after at 11:18 to reinforce the Oilers lead to two. Harry Ahlberg was able to bury another goal on the doorstep to send them to the break down one.
Luke Melnik converted on a point shot while on a five-on-three power play at 10:41 and tied things up. No one else scored in the frame and that meant it was time for OT.
Just 39 seconds in, Michael Kowalski scored on a between the legs goal and ended a 28 game winning streak that Brooks had on Okotoks in the regular season.
The Bandits are back in action this Friday when they host the red hot West Kelowna Warriors. Puck drop is at 7:00 MT.
