Bandits Fall Short Against Bulldogs on First Night of Back to Back

The Brooks Bandits lose 5-2 to the Blackfalds Bulldogs in a game that just slipped away from Brooks in the third period. This is the first game of two this weekend for the Bandits and they will look to rebound tomorrow against the Sherwood Park Crusaders when they play at the Sherwood Park Arena.

Alexei Zhukov (Yekaterinburg, Russia) scored his first goal of the season and his first goal in the BCHL to open up the scoring at the 4:17 mark of the first period. It was rifled top corner on the power play. It was shortly answered by Ukranian Nikita Ivashchenko to make it 1-1. Liam Fitzpatrick (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan) converted at 15:48 to get the lead back for the Bandits but it didn’t last long as Gabriel Smith put one past Zach Zahara (Rocky View, Alberta) late in the period (19:26) to notch it back up at 2-2.

It was all Bulldogs after that. Austin Borggaard scored at the 8:33 mark of the second frame for the lone goal of the period to give the Bulldogs their first lead of the game.

Luke Dahlen scored at the 16:17 mark of the third period and Thomas Neu buried an empty netter to seal the deal on a 5-2 victory for the Bulldogs (19:09).

The Bandits will look to rebound on this loss when they visit the Sherwood Park Crusaders tomorrow night at the Sherwood Park Arena. The Crusaders did not play today but are 2-0 on the season. Puck drop will be at 7 MT.
